After having my daughter I found myself 50 pounds heavier. I barely recognized my body, let alone myself. I knew I had to get back to the gym but I felt uninspired and that my goals were unattainable.
I heard about Crossfit from a friend and after a few 'you-tube' videos, I was really excited about what I saw and decided to give it a try. I can say that this decision has changed my life.
From the moment I stepped into Crossfit Renegade, I knew I made the right choice. I was greeted with friendly smiles, encouraging words and surrounded by athletes that I had hoped I would someday turn into.
The trainers Jamie and Mary-Ellen are motivating, supportive and genuinely care about the athletes at their gym. They give you that 'one-on-one' attention that sometimes gets lost in group workouts. They ensure proper technique and form is achieved with each skill to prevent injury and optimize results. And not to mention they are both absolute machines at the WOD's!
Everyone at Crossfit Renegade cheers each other on and you are pushed by your peers to your full potential. You immediately feel like part of the 'Renegade family', and you leave feeling sore in places you never know existed! (But that's followed by gaining muscle in places you never knew was possible!)
Crossfit is empowering and allows you to believe your body is capable of anything, It has now been just over 3 months since I started at Crossfit Renegade and I, and my husband ;) can proudly say I am in the best shape of my life. After years as a chef in Europe followed by a major career change to the stress of air traffic control, I found myself overweight and out of shape. I joined a conventional gym and got the kick- start that I needed, but in time I was in a rut and plateauing with the same old routine. A friend and I discovered CrossFit.com and followed the workouts there, but without proper knowledge of correct form and the understanding of the movements, again I found myself hitting the wall. I searched for a CrossFit gym in my area and came across CrossFit Renegade. I was warmly welcomed at an open house by Jamie and Mary-Ellen and decided to give it a try. In a nutshell, one of the best decisions I have ever made for my health and fitness. The one-on-one instruction with very close attention to detail and correct form has prevented injuries and enabled me to make greater gains in a shorter period of time than I ever thought was possible. The friendliness, support and encouragement from the other members has kept me motivated and encouraged to continually improve and challenge myself.
I began participating in Foundation classes at Crossfit Renegade in December 2011. It was one of the best decisions I have made for my health in a long time. I learned about Crossfit after a body composition test I completed in November 2011 that tested my body at “obese level 1”. I knew I had to make some changes, as I was closing in on my 40’s, have a young family, and had been challenged to find a fitness and diet regimen that provided consistent, healthful results. I had been active (involved in both team and individual sports) much of my life, so, needless to say, I was unnerved at the test results. I was ready to make a change for the better!
At Crossfit Renegade I have learned being active was okay, but improving the way I eat and attaining a level of fitness that promotes excellence in health and fitness is where I aspire to be. To date, I have made improvements in all aspects of my fitness. Most important to me is my ability to manage my lower back health, which I am successful doing through Crossfitting and better nutrition. After only a couple months of Crossfitting I was required to have a medical exam done for a professional driver’s licence I hold. The doctor who examined me asked me if I was an athlete and what sport I played because my resting heart rate was so low! Besides feeling good, that was further confirmation that the transformation going on in my body as a result of training at Crossfit Renegade was and still is a great thing!
Jamie and Mary-Ellen’s coaching and support are enabling me to achieve my fitness goals I have set for myself. Their philosophy on training is innovative and success oriented, introducing new ways to exercise that keep classes challenging, exciting and never boring! They are genuinely concerned for my safety as they provide an adequate warm up, recommend mobility work and are sticklers for correct form. The camaraderie between athletes (whether new or experienced) that takes place when performing the workout is contagious! In the past 8 months I have both witnessed, and experienced the integrity that is Crossfit Renegade, coaching people, improving all-around fitness. Collin C.
